The state Assembly has approved legislation urging law enforcement officers to videotape their interrogations; a step the measure€™s supporters say would protect defendants´ rights and avoid frivolous lawsuits against police.
Critics say the bill would help defense attorneys undermine the legitimacy of interrogations that weren€™t videotaped. Today€™s 41-31 vote sends the measure by Assemblyman Mervyn Dymally of Compton to the Senate.
