Four volunteers – who make up Calaveras County´s initial public health response team – have received smallpox vaccinations. The county´s public health officer and three public health nurses got the shots late last week. According to a report in the Calaveras Enterprise, the vaccinations were routine and none of those receiving the first doses reported any adverse reactions.
These are the first such inoculations for the disease to be administered in Calaveras County since 1973.
