Tuolumne County Supervisors tomorrow will consider a proposal to make staff reductions at the county run hospital. The proposal includes the elimination of several vacant positions at Tuolumne General Hospital as well as reducing one position from full time to part time. The move is expected to save around $300,000.
The changes are part of an overall plan to put Tuolumne General on better financial footing. Over the past six years, TGH has borrowed $6 million from the county and used $11 million from the county general fund.
County and hospital officials are still trying to figure out exactly how much the hospital will be in the red this fiscal year, which ends in June. Estimates range from just over $1 million up to $2.7 million.
