About 200 protesters are at the Bechtel building in San Francisco after a riotous day yesterday that ended early today with a total of some 1,400 arrests. Police in riot gear quickly declared the gathering at Beale between Market and Mission an unlawful assembly. Demonstrators tried to halt an ambulance — but were rebuffed by officers.
Authorities say yesterday´s arrest figure is the largest one-day total in the city´s history.
