A junior high school in the North Highlands area of Sacramento County was evacuated after a 15-year-old student is found with a live pipe bomb in her backpack.
It was safely destroyed with a water canon.
Authorities say a 13-year-old boy made the bomb and gave it to the girl for safekeeping. They say the students had no plans for any attack – but both now face felony charges of possessing a destructive device. Don Julio Junior High School was searched, and its roughly 400 students allowed to resume classes after less than two hours.
