A farm group says consumers want to know where their food comes from.
The California Farm Bureau Federation is urging the federal government to move ahead with a new labeling system. Congress approved country of origin labels for meats and produce last year.
Farm Bureau spokesman Bruce Blodgett says his organization supports the new regulations. He says present label standards are confusing to consumers. The U.S. Agriculture Department is now working to start the program.
