Megan´s Law Up For Review

The Assembly Public Safety Committee has advanced a bill to remove the sunset date for California´s Megan´s Law. The law that tracks convicted sex offenders expires at year´s end unless lawmakers act.

Assemblywoman Nicole Parra says her select committee is working on ways to improve the law. State Senator Dean Florez has four bills awaiting committee consideration — including one making the sex offender list publicly available over the Internet and through a toll-free number. An Associated Press investigation finds the state does not know the location of more than 30-thousand sex offenders who should have registered.
