Two minor earthquakes struck today next to the San Andreas Fault where it skirts the southwestern San Joaquin Valley, but apparently caused no injuries or damage.
The first was an estimated magnitude 3.4 quake that hit at about 9:10 A.M. and was centered 18 miles south, southeast of Taft. A second, smaller quake, with a magnitude of 3.1, struck about a mile away at 1 P.M. The epicenter was a couple of miles southwest of the San Andreas.
