One of the tallest buildings in San Francisco is getting some security upgrades.
White barriers placed around the Transamerica Pyramid after the September 11th terror attacks will be replaced with steel pillars called bollards. The bollards are sunk 12 feet into the ground and form a three-foot barricade around the base of the building.
A new high-tech security screening system has been installed in the lobby. Building spokeswoman Nancy Green says building owners want security enhanced, but they don´t want to tamper with the structure´s appearance. The Transamerica Pyramid is considered the most high-profile building in the city.
