North Coast Beaches Get Clean Bill of Health

Four popular beaches on California´s North Coast have received a clean bill of health from inspectors checking for dangerous levels of bacteria. The four beaches in Humboldt County have been tested weekly since February as part of an effort to determine if they are safe for recreation.

Tests on two of the beaches showed that fecal coliform exceeded accepted levels once or twice, but the levels later returned to normal, and the beaches are considered safe. The two beaches with occasionally high bacteria levels were Luffenholtz Beach near Luffenholtz Creek and Moonstone Beach near Little River.

The other two beaches tested were Clam Beach near Strawberry Creek and Trinidad State Beach near Mill Creek.

Tests will continue through September.
