Thunderstorm Sparks Small Fires

Forestry officials say a lightning storm moved across Tuolumne County yesterday, igniting several small fires.

The storm started 16 fires in the upper reaches of the Stanislaus National Forest. Firefighters quickly controlled eight of them, and managers are watching the others closely.

None of them are larger than two acres and none pose any threat.
