A Sacramento judge has turned down a request to move Proposition 54 from the October ballot to the election next March.
Attorneys from the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund asked the court to postpone the vote on the measure to give voters more time to consider the proposal. The ballot measure would bar state and local governments from collecting racial data on people.
Proposition 54 is sponsored by University of California Regent Ward Connerly.
