State fire officials say lightning strikes have sparked more than 200 fires in Northern California, including 22 that have the potential to get badly out of control.
The CDF in San Andreas says there were only a few very insignificant fires in our area overnight because of the lightning. A fire spokesman says a few small fires burned near West Point. There was also a small fire along Highway 108 near J-59 that was probably not caused by lightning, the spokesman said. It burned less than an acre. The spokesman said the fire could be suspicious, and an investigator may be on-scene today.
Most of the fires that began yesterday are in remote areas. But the Morgan Fire in Lake County is threatening about 200 structures.
The California Department of Forestry has scrambled about 4,000 firefighters to Lake, Humboldt, Mendocino, Sonoma, Napa, Shasta, Trinity, Tehama and Glenn counties. Fire officials say they´re stretched so thin, 37 of the fires in areas the state is supposed to monitor cannot be staffed.
Many firefighters are being sent from the Mother Lode to areas north of here and to the coast.
