Local high school football got off to an exciting start last night in the Mother Lode.
Sonora High Wildcats opened their season at home with a win over the Johansen Vikings 38-14 last night. Jeff Hess connected with Dean Freitas and Tommy Grove for touchdowns and ran one in himself. Ryan Roberson went five for five in point after attempts and hit a 16-yard field goal as well.
Summerville High Bears lost to the #2 team in the state, Escalon High 35-15 in their season home opener Friday. The Bears showed promise during the contest, completing two touchdown passes from Justin Tune to Steve Feola for a combined 124 yards.
Bret Harte High was defeated by Livingston 35-32, Calaveras High was victorious over River City 14-6 and Oakdale High took one from Turlock High 21-16.
