An autopsy is being performed today on an inmate who died while in custody at the Tuolumne County Jail.
Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Lt. John Steely says 52-year-old David Scaruffi was found dead in his jail cell around 5 p.m. Wednesday. A full investigation is underway with an outside agency assisting, Steely said.
At this point, officials don´t suspect any foul play, Steely said.
Scaruffi was arrested on Tuesday charged with possession of a controlled substance.
