Memories.
There was plenty of those Saturday as thousands of Sonora High School alumni gathered on campus to continue the celebration of their high school´s centennial.
Following on the heels of an “edge-of-your-seat” win by the Wildcats Friday night in front of nearly 6,000 fans at Dunlavy field, former Sonora High students gathered in the sunny quad area in the center of campus to talk about old times and relive school day memories.
A large display of vintage photos, newspaper clippings, yearbook pages and other school memorabilia was in the library and attracted a constant crowd, while a tri-tip barbecue lunch served hungry alums in the cafeteria.
Later in the afternoon the Sonora High School Golden Regiment Band, under the direction of Pat Sieben, performed an hour-long concert on Dunlavy Field.
The Centennial celebration came to a close on the steps of the campus auditorium Saturday evening where proclamations and presentations were read and reflections offered.
Among the highlights were a congratulatory letter from President Bush and an official recognition from the State of California, presented by local Assemblymen Dave Cogdill´s office.
The original 1907 school building cornerstone was also dedicated and now has a permanent place on campus. The monument will also be where school officials will bury a time capsule, which is to be opened 50 years from now.
Centennial Hall was also dedicated as members of the Sonora High A Cappella Choir sang the school Alma Mater.
