Good Voter Turn Out So Far

A long ballot and long lines.

That´s what an unusually high turnout of California voters are facing in today´s historic gubernatorial recall election.

One veteran voting supervisor in Hollywood Hills says she has never been so busy.

People were waiting when the doors opened at 7 a.m. — and there was a 15- to 20-minute wait to cast ballots at her polling place — a hotel.

Some voters came armed with pamphlets to guide through the 135 names on the ballot.

In some precincts, voters complained about using punch-card systems that created problems in the 2000 presidential election in Florida.

Record numbers of people have already voted by absentee ballot. A Field Poll predicts about 10 million Californians will vote today.
