Lawmakers Want “Framework” Revisions

Citing the recent wildfires, some California lawmakers are warning that the Sierra Nevada is dangerously overgrown and they are urging “common sense” revisions to a management plan for the forest.

Twenty Republicans and three Democrats made the plea in a letter to Regional Forester Jack Blackwell. It comes as he prepares to finalize controversial revisions to the management plan for eleven and a-half (m) million acres in the Southern and Northern Sierra.

The proposed revisions would allow more logging in the Sierra´s national forests by increasing the size of trees that could be cut to a maximum of 30 inches in diameter.

An aide to Republican Congressman Wally Herger of Chico says the proposed framework revisions go in the right direction, but not far enough.
