Fast Speed Rail Set For Bay Area

The high-speed passenger train that slid into San Francisco´s Caltrain depot today can´t hustle as fast as the bullet trains of Japan and Europe.

But the so-called “baby bullet” trains are expected to cut the 90-minute commute between San Francisco and Silicon Valley in half. And supporters say it could coax up to 30,000 drivers out of their cars and onto the rails.

The new trains and track improvements are expected to cost a total of about $165 million. The express trains won´t be open to the public until late next year.
