Fresno city leaders say residents can thank the city´s student truancy law for a sharp reduction in crime. City and school officials say statistics showing a recent drop in daytime crimes are directly related to the Juvenile Accountability Ordinance. The ordinance gives authorities the right to give tickets and penalties to students who are repeat truants. Since August, police have picked up 1,043 truant students across the county. That´s 176 fewer than last year.
