Clerk Says Westerfield “Distant”After Girl Disappeared

The trial of David Westerfield continues in San Diego. Yesterday, two clerks at a dry cleaning store say the man charged with the kidnapping and murder of seven-year-old Danielle van Dam seemed rushed and distant when he brought items to be cleaned in the days after the girl´s disappearance The clerks testified that Westerfield came to their Poway store twice on February Fourth with comforters, bedding materials and clothes to be cleaned. Clerk Julie Mills says Westerfield seemed “very distant”, and appeared oddly dressed. She says he was barefoot and wearing only a T-shirt and shorts on a cold morning. This is the third week of testimony in the trial. Westerfield could get the death penalty if he´s convicted.
