San Francisco´s Ghirardelli Chocolate Company is celebrating one hundred and fifty years with plans to expand its chocolate empire. The company was founded in 1852 by Domenico Ghirardelli, an Italian immigrant who failed to make it as a prospector during the Gold Rush. Ghirardelli´s management says it wants a bigger share of the country´s $1 billion premium chocolate market. It plans to double the company´s domestic business in five years.
