Bringing back memories of but a few short months ago, fire units are battling a wildfire in the Darby Road Area in Calaveras County near Avery. The fire was reported around 4:40 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
The fire was burning in an area very near last year´s huge Darby Fire by the lower end of the Flume.
A CDF helicopter is currently doing water drops. Fire officials sound like they have a handle on the blaze and have began to call-off additional fire units and aircraft. They have said vegetation in the area is still green which helped slow the rate of spread.
A bulldozer and an inmate fire crew are on scene, as well as numerous fire engines and firefighters.
The Darby Fire broke out Sept. 5 last year, and burned more than 14,000-acres. Cost to battle that blaze topped the $18 million mark.
