Davis Scientist Dead At 87

A leading plant geneticist whose work with tomatoes made important contributions to the study of evolution has died. University of California, Davis, professor Charles Rick was 87 when he died earlier this month at a retirement home. Rick traveled the world to collect wild tomato species, which contain genetic variation not seen in the domestic tomato. Many of those varieties are now extinct in their native habitats.
