Cell Phone Gives Bomber’s Location

Suspected mailbox bomber Luke Helder made a crucial mistake as he sought to avoid federal authorities: He turned on his cell phone.

Nevada authorities say as soon as he activated it, F-B-I agents triangulated his position between two rural towns and had him in handcuffs within an hour.

Another motorist spotted Helder – and that helped authorities too. But the cell phone signal was a dead giveaway.

Major Rick Bradley of the Nevada Highway Patrol says they got a call from the FBI at 3:20 p.m. yesterday that Helder´s cell phone was on.

Officers flooded the area between Battle Mountain and Golconda and quickly had Helder in custody.

The FBI won´t say how they pulled the cell phone locator feat – or even acknowledge it was used.
