Burn Permits Required May 1

Starting Wednesday, May 1 at 8 a.m., burn permits will be required for all open burning. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says burning hours will remain open until 8 a.m. Monday May 20. After that date, burn hours will be restricted to 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. until the end of fire season.

Tuolumne County Fire Warden Fred McVay reminds local residents to be careful when burning. He said although we have had rain during the past few weeks, conditions can change quickly. A few days of wind and warm temperatures can create dangerous burning conditions, McVay stressed.

For burn day information, check the My Mother Lode Web Home page, or call 533-5598 in Tuolumne County, 754-6600 in Calaveras County, or 785-7664 in the Copperopolis area.

CDF burn permits and information can be obtained at the local CDF and Stanislaus National Forest offices.
