Amtrak officials warn that California´s four long-distance routes remain at “high risk.´´
This, despite signs of help from Congress as it seeks to secure more than a billion dollars in federal funding. In a letter to governors in 46 states, including California, railroad President George Warrington said that 18 long-distance routes may be discontinued because of a lack of funds.
Among them are the Sunset Limited, California Zephyr, Southwest Chief and Coast Starlight.
