Emergency units responded to Soulsbyville Road shortly after 4:30 Monday afternoon to a structure fire at the old Jones saw mill. Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles.
Tuolumne County Fire Marshall Karry Hubbard said the old wooden building was completely destroyed by the blaze. The structure was collasping onto itself making it unsafe for firefighters to get close in order to battle the fire.
Hubbard says firefighters extinguished about 12 small spot fires in the surrounding grass near the structure. Six engines and three water tenders responded to the blaze.
Hubbard says the fire is under investigation. “It´s too soon to tell,” she said, but they are not ruling out arson, since the buildings had no electricity running to them.
