Assembly Democrats are beginning to lose faith in Governor Gray Davis´ budget proposal. Legislative Analyst Elizabeth Hill warned lawmakers that the state´s fiscal condition continues to deteriorate and deeper cuts totalling 5 billion dollars must be made by the June deadline.
The Governor´s office says it will have a clearer picture of the budget status in May, when revised numbers will be released. Oropeza and several Democratic colleagues have said they will follow the Legislative Analysts forecast not the Governor´s, unless extreme improvements in state revenue collections are posted.
