Leslie Wants Tax Sharing Bill Ousted

State Assemblyman Tim Leslie of Calaveras County wants the legislature to drop a bill that would require cities to share tax revenues. Assembly Bill 680 calls for cities to split the revenues from new businesses.

Leslie and others oppose the bill because it would redirect taxes outside of the area where they were imposed, making it unconstitutional. The State Independent Office of Legislative Counsel stated the bill would not work because a simple majority vote by the public would be needed for it to pass. Polls indicate voters are against the bill.
