One of the oldest veterans groups in Orange County is under investigation by the state attorney general after losing more than 800-thousand dollars in three years.
The Orange County Register reports today that Veterans First may have to dissolve because of its financial woes.
The nonprofit group has helped thousands of veterans since being formed in 1970 and in the past year alone helped 700 veterans. The group provides housing for homeless vets as well as drug, alcohol and job counseling.
The charity had a net worth of 752-thousand dollars in mid-1997, but by mid-2000, it was 66-thousand dollars in debt.
