Ross Resigns From Forestry Board

Published Jan 22, 2002 7:10 pm : Updated Jan 31, 2009 5:30 pm

A California Board of Forestry member criticized for being too closely tied to the logging industry has resigned, postponing a fight between Governor Davis and key senators over his appointments to the board.

Paula Ross´ resignation eliminates a board member opposed by environmental groups and buys Davis a year before senators must confirm the bulk of his nominees to the board. Davis reappointed Stan Dixon to the board, naming him as chairman. The board´s chairmanship had gone vacant for about two years.

Even if senators block Davis´ nomination of a third board member next month, Davis´ moves mean the board will have enough members to act on official business.
