Highway patrol officers confirm the death of Calaveras County´s new Public Defender in a July 3rd traffic accident.
Investigators say 48-year-old Paul Fairless was traveling on Highway 99 just south of Merced, when he lost control of his car in the fast lane, then struck a guardrail and a tree. He was pronounced dead at Mercy Community Hospital in Merced.
