A severe thunderstorm triggering lightning in the northern Sierra has touched off at least one new wildfire this afternoon. The fire is north of Reno about a mile and a half west of Highway 395 near Evans Valley.
According to the National Weather Service, a large-scale upper low-pressure cell now over the Central Valley will continue to enhance severe storm activity over the mountains. A thunderstorm warning is in effect across much of western Nevada and the Sierra.
