An attempt to make California the first in the nation to raise the smoking age from 18 to 21 died in an Assembly committee today.
The bill would have fined anyone under 21 caught smoking, or anyone who sold tobacco to minors.
Assemblyman Rod Pacheco, who amended the bill, says he will try and bring the bill back to life this week by attaching amendments to another bill. He has until tomorrow at 5 p.m. to do so.
