An arrest has been made in today´s Central Valley freight train derailment.
More than 600 Amtrak passengers were bused between Fresno and Bakersfield after a four-locomotive freight train ran off the tracks near McFarland, about 30 miles north of Bakersfield.
No injuries are reported.
A Fresno big rig driver has been booked for investigation of driving drunk. Kern County Battalion Chief Brian Marshall says the driver apparently damaged the tracks after being involved in a hit-and-run accident.
Fifteen flat cars from the freight train derailed about 4:25 a.m. The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway train was going from Fresno to Bakersfield.
Some of the cars caught fire. The derailed cars were hauling big rig trailers filled with produce and powdered milk.
Amtrak, which uses the same track, bused passengers between Bakersfield in Fresno. About 622 passengers travel the San Joaquin line each day.
