Bush Forest Plan Goes To Congress

The Bush administration´s proposal to improve forest health made its debut in Congress Thursday. The administration presented four pieces of legislation designed to streamline the tinning of overgrown forests.

Officials say the thinning would help prevent catastrophic wildfires, such as those hitting the west this year. The bills would remove some of the procedural steps that have slowed approval of forest thinning plans.

More details of the president´s Healthy Forests initiative can be found on the White House Web site at www.whitehouse.gov/ under the “Policies in Focus” section and clicking on “More Issues.”
