Highway 26 east of Glencoe is closed to through traffic by CHP at Red Corral Road due to a wildland fire and accident in the area at the South Fork Bridge of the Mokelumne River.
That fire is now contained.
Fire crews at the scene of the traffic accident and resulting fire on Highway 26 say the fire is burning on both sides of the highway in grass and oak woodland.
CHP says a loaded, small car hauler apparently went off the road there exploding and starting the fires. CHP is advising traffic from Rail Road Flat will have to use Ridge Road.
The fire was first reported at 1:45 p.m. Fire officials are indicating they are getting a good handle on the fire at this time.
