Calaveras County fire crews were kept very busy this afternoon.
Firefighters are still working on a fire near Highway 26, on the 200 block of Centennial Mine Road in the West Point area. This fire broke out at around 3:20 p.m. A home in the fire´s path was threatened for a time.
Sharon Torrance with the Calaveras County CDF says firefighters contained the fire just after 4 o´clock at 5 acres. Cause of the fire is believed to be children playing with matches.
At 1:45 p.m. this afternoon another vegetation fire broke out.
An accident involving a flatbed auto hauler started a wildfire along Highway 26 at the South Fork bridge of the Mokelumne River, east of Glencoe.
This fire was held to 2 acres and closed the highway near the Amador County line. Fire officials expect the road to be remained closed for a while as firefighters mop up the blaze and crews can pull the wrecked truck back onto the road to be towed.
