California became the first state in the country to enact a comprehensive paid family leave program for workers under a bill signed by Governor Davis today.
The signing ceremony took place at the UCLA Mattel Children´s Hospital. Supporters hope the bill will serve as a nationwide model, while business groups denounce it as too costly for employers. Davis said, “I don´t want Californians to choose between being good parents and good employees.”
