Lakemont Pines Fire Hard To Find

It was no easy task getting to a 10 acre wildfire in the Stanislaus National Forest near the Calaveras County community of Lakemont Pines early Tuesday morning.

CDF Valley fire Incident Commander Dan Miller says fire was burning in a very remote area. “It´s in the middle of nothing,” Miller said. “There´s no road out to it. The fire line edge is 600-feet off the road.”

Firefighters used a dirt fire break road to gain access to the blaze near Valley View Road. Air tankers and helicopters helped slow the spread as ground crews got hose lines and water to the fire.

Investigators found spent shotgun casings and footprints in the burn area and believe a hunter was probably responsible for starting the blaze. Miller says the fire apparently burned overnight in the secluded part of the wildland.
