Emergency crews responded to a multi-vehicle accident on O´Byrnes Ferry Road, about 1 1/2 miles south of Copperopolis.
Fire units on scene said four cars were involved in the accident around that happened at 6 p.m. Wednesday night.
Three people were injured and a MediFlight helicopter was called in as well as two ground ambulances.
The roadway was partially blocked for a time and then shut down when the helicopter landed to evacuate the seriously injured.
