That Red Flag fire warning continues in effect over much of Northern California this evening.
The state Department of Forestry says fire danger is high because of low humidity and brisk winds. Most fuel is at its driest at the end of the season – and thus fire danger is extremely high.
The warning puts firefighters on highest alert. Seasonal firefighters are being kept on the job for the time being – and scheduled days off have been canceled.
The area affected by the warning includes the Bay Area east to the Sierra foothills and north to Shasta County.
