Driver Avoids ´Udder´ Disaster

A fatal traffic accident yesterday afternoon in Calaveras County claimed the life of … a cow.

The California Highway Patrol reports 45-year-old Arnold resident Steven Heisinger – driving his 1991 Chevy pickup truck westbound on State Route 4 near Beatrice Drive – didn´t see three cows crossing the roadway and couldn´t stop in time to avoid a ´cow-llision.´ The pickup hit the left side of one cow.

CHP says the impact from the crash sent the cow a “considerable distance” down the highway. Heisinger slid to a stop on the right shoulder of the highway.

According to officers at the incident, the cow, whose age, name, and field of residence was not immediately available, was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken away by Caltrans. The two other cows, and Heisinger, escape injury.
