Yosemite Hiker Still Missing

National Park Service personnel are still searching for a 66-year-old hiker, missing in Yosemite since Sept. 20th.

Yosemite National Park Ranger Scott Gediman says there are still no clues to the whereabouts of hiker Walter Reinhard of Arizona.

Reinhard checked into an area hotel and was going for a day hike in the White Wolf area near Highway 120. Gediman says Reinhard was an avid hiker, but not a frequent Yosemite visitor.

An active search is continuing through the weekend in the park, with two helicopters, five search dog teams and 40 persons on the ground, including members of Reinhard´s family.

“We´ve had some family members out joining the search,” Gediman said Thursday afternoon, “but, unfortunately, when we don´t have a point where he was last seen, or any specific clues that he was hiking on a certain trail, it makes it very difficult.”

As of this afternoon, the search teams have scoured a 40-square-mile area of the park north to the Hetch Hetchy headwaters and east to the Ten Lakes area.

His car was found at the trailhead Monday.
