Protesters Camp Out In San Francisco

Hundreds of anti-war protesters pitched tents in front of the federal building in San Francisco for an all-night vigil to protest possible war in Iraq. Protesters carried signs reading “War is terrorism with a bigger budget” and “Unite for peace,” while musicians played to the crowd of about 200 last night. The protesters are considering blocking the entrance to the federal building later this morning. But Medea Benjamin, a founder of one of the groups involved in the event, says the decision will be made closer to the time when workers begin to arrive. The Senate and House of Representatives passed a resolution giving President Bush broad authority to use US troops to confront Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. The resolution goes to Bush for his signature.
