A Turlock man has been awarded 80-thousand dollars after being sexual harassed at the dairy plant where he worked. The state Fair Employment and Housing Commission ruled yesterday that Julio Mario Velez had been the target discrimination while working at Lactalis U-S-A Inc. The commission ruled Velez was harassed because of his sexual orientation and his nationality.
The commission also said the company failed to address the problem. The commission ordered the company to develop a written policy against harassment, provide training on the policy and post notices admitting the violation of the Fair Employment and Housing Act. The ruling says Velez was subjected to insults and name-calling between September 1998 until July 2000. A plant manager had no comment on the ruling.
