Election officials in Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties are taking in absentee ballots and taking care of last-minute details before Tuesday’s election.
Tuolumne County Clerk Tim Johnson says have waited until the last minute to mail their absentee ballots in.
Johnson says his office got about 500 ballots in the mail Monday, and has received more than half of the absentee ballots distributed.
In Calaveras County, Election Supervisor Sandy Rader says they issued 6,643 absentee ballots, and had 4,717 back by Monday.
Elections officials remind voters not to mail an absentee ballot now. To be counted, the ballot must be received by 8 p.m. Tuesday, so anyone with an un-mailed ballot should drop it off at their polling place or the elections office.
Polls are open in both counties from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and if all goes well, returns will start coming in at 8:30 or 9 p.m.
KVML will broadcast live election coverage beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, and update elections return all night.
