Democratic candidate Steve Westly has increased his lead in the race for state controller.
Election officials say Westly now leads the Republican candidate, state Senator Tom Mc-Clintock, by nearly 33,000 votes. That´s up from about 26,000 votes yesterday.
There are still at least 824,000 absentee, provisional and challenged ballots to be counted statewide.
A Westly victory would give Democrats their first sweep of California statewide offices in more than a century.
