Fourteen people were injured near Merced this morning after motorists driving too fast in dense fog crashed, trigging a series of separate accidents.
The California Highway Patrol says only one-person suffered serious injuries in nine separate accidents on Highway 99 south of Merced.
Both lanes were closed because of the mess and traffic was badly backed up.
In a separate fog-related crash in Fresno, a big rig towing a tractor slammed into a train around 7 a.m.
The driver told CHP officers he did not see the train, although the crossing arms were down. Officers say the truck driver was going too fast. A passenger was thrown from the cab of the truck but walked away from the accident. The driver and passenger were taken to the hospital with minor and major injuries.
